This use of a local, long-loved brick was important to the designers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The pavilion is built half with architectural history, and the other half is contemporary,&#8221; Arienzo said. &#8220;That dialogue, I think, is very important for us.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The studio also noted that it studied previous Serpentine Pavilions and found that none had been constructed using brick.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2326391\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2326391\" style=\"width: 2364px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2326391 size-full lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" alt=\"Interior render of the Serpentine Pavilion showing curved brick walls, brick columns and a translucent roof structure\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1734\" data-src=\"http:\/\/www.angesfinanciers.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/lanza-atelier-2026-serpentine-pavilion-video_dezeen_2364_col_1.jpg\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2326391\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The layout was informed by the structure of serpentine walls<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The architects discussed how Mexico City has influenced the practice and its ethos.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;[Mexico City], as everybody knows, is huge. Almost half of the city is self-built,&#8221; Arienzo said. &#8220;You can learn a lot of things from the built environment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2326396\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2326396\" style=\"width: 2364px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2326396 size-full lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" alt=\"Portrait of Isabel Abascal and Alessandro Arienzo\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1690\" data-src=\"http:\/\/www.angesfinanciers.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/lanza-atelier-2026-serpentine-pavilion-video_dezeen_2364_col_6.jpg\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2326396\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lanza Atelier was founded by architects Isabel Abascal and Alessandro Arienzo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Experimentation plays an important role in the studio&#8217;s work and often involves a close engagement with local materials and lived experience.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s more about playing and getting to know the purpose of the project,&#8221; Arienzo explained.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At some point,&#8230;you realise the project is leading you somewhere, and you just have to follow.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Previous pavilions by Lanza Atelier include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/11\/04\/lanza-atelier-circular-mexico-city-pavilion-chains\/\">a circular platform draped by water-dripping chains<\/a> in the plaza of a Mexico City shopping centre and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/01\/20\/lanza-atelier-creates-shou-sugi-ban-pavilion-in-mexico-city\/\">a temporary wood-and-steel structure<\/a> designed as a gathering space in the city.<\/p>\n<p><em>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.serpentinegalleries.org\/\">Serpentine Pavilion<\/a> will open to the public from 6 June to 25 October 2026 at the Serpentine Galleries in London.
